Neurofeedback (also known as EEG biofeedback) is a non-invasive therapeutic technique that trains individuals to regulate their brain activity. It’s based on the idea that people can learn to change their brainwave patterns through real-time feedback, potentially improving mental health, cognitive performance, and emotional regulation.
How Neurofeedback Works
- EEG Monitoring: Electrodes are placed on the scalp to measure brainwave activity in real time.
- Feedback Loop: The EEG signals are sent to a computer, which processes them and provides feedback (via video, sound, or games).
- Training the Brain: When the brain produces “desired” patterns (like more focus, calm, or reduction in anxiety), the person receives a reward (e.g., the game progresses or a tone is played). Over time, this reinforces beneficial brainwave activity.
Not all Neurofeedback is equal
One of our unique features in treatment of neurofeedback is the use of QEEG (Quantitative EEG/Brain Map) as a diagnostic guide to determine the most effective protocol of implementation for treatment. Together with patient’s report of symptoms, and their goals, the QEEG report demonstrates which areas of the brain require targeting to either increase or decrease activity. Utilization of the QEEG as a guide assists in facilitating treatment results that are faster, while reducing the possibility of side effects.
Conditions We Treat
Conditions we treat with Neurofeedback include:
- ADHD / ADD
- Anxiety and depression, PTSD
- Sleep disorders / insomnia
- Traumatic brain injury (TBI) from impact and medical conditions,
- Migraines
- Autism spectrum disorder
- Most recently: Long COVID
